Do you believe there are too many ads on TV about prescription medications and supplements? Please read the article found at: https://drmichaelwayne.com/blog/drug-ads-on-tv-a-brief-history/ to see how things changed in August of 1997 when the FDA rules were changed. Today the percentage of medication ads on TV is too high.
There seems to be a pharma ad at every commercial break on TV 24 x 7. In informal discussions with my physicians and healthcare support they do not like all these ads being shown constantly on TV. Each medication is implied to be something you should ask your physician about. None of the physicians I talked with thought it was a promising idea to constantly be asked about new medications because of the TV ads. Ads are written to tell us the medication is a wonder drug if it does not kill us. There is never enough time to read all the fine print on the ads. We are told not to take the medication if we do not tolerate the drug or any of its components. If we have never taken it or its ingredients, how can we know? The fine print is litigation avoidance.
I am curious what the ad agencies who produce the new drug names are paid to do their job. The ads are lucrative for the pharma companies, so creating the ads must be lucrative as well, so the price of the thoroughly test medications.
As usual, I cannot be all in on these ads. I am inhalfway.
